Mary Gardiner is the Director of Operations and Research at the Ada Initiative. She is also a computer programmer and computer science postgraduate student.

Women's groups and events

Mary is the founder of the LinuxChix and Haecksen miniconferences and of both AussieChix, the Australia-wide LinuxChix chapter, and OWOOT, the expansion of AussieChix+NZChix into general open technology.

Open source in Australia

Mary has been involved in Open Source community, particularly in Australia, for many years, including:

  • keynote presentation at PyCon AU in August 2011
  • committee member of Linux Australia in the first half of 2011
  • (co) chair of the linux.conf.au program in 2008, 2009 and 2010
  • reviewer for linux.conf.au and PyCon US
  • former lead documentation author for the Twisted project

Her contribution to the Australian open source community was recognised in 2012 with the Rusty Wrench Award.
