The Isla Vista killings were the killing of six people (two women and four men) by man in Isla Vista, California, in May 2014.
Discussion following the killings about the motivation of the killer included subjects that the geek feminism community had regularly discussed:
- The autism is to blame fallacy in which men's bad behaviour is explained by their autism spectrum diagnosis or suspected diagnosis: coverage of the killings focussed extensively on the killer's possible autism diagnosis.
- His involvement in men's rights advocacy forums online.
Many geek feminists and others were reminded strongly of elements of the École Polytechnique massacre in the killer's apparent motivations regarding women. The Isla Vista killer was particularly enraged by what he perceived as women's lack of due sexual attention to him.
Others [links if possible please] have noted that the racism espoused by the killer, including his killing of his three male housemates and a male bystander — all four men of color — have received little coverage compared to his gender-related statements.
